Our Story

From the Beginning

At Nursery on the Hill (Enfield) Limited, we’re proud to provide a caring and safe environment for your children. By following our mission, vision and values, we have created a nurturing, stimulating and welcoming learning environment for all children.

We opened in September 2006, under the name of StepStones Day Nursery and following our success we opened our sister nursery in 2012.  The demand has been ever increasing and in January 2021 we took an opportunity to expand at NOTH. We have recently spent over £150k creating the most wonderful environment for children and babies. An exciting adventure for us all!

We provide care for children aged 6 months - 5 years. We are open from 8am until 6pm each weekday.  With the offer of an Early Bird start at 7.45pm* We are open 50 weeks of the year and close for one week in the Summer and one week at Christmas, we also close on Bank Holidays.

* Additional Charge

Starting at our Nursery

Starting at our setting - The first days

We want your child to feel happy and safe with us. To make sure that this is the case, our staff will work with you to decide how to help your child settle into our nursery. Tailor made provisions will satisfy your child's needs in accordance with our own settling in policy.

We provide a 'home from home' learning environment to help your child gain independence and develop their social skills by communicating and sharing with others. Our planning and record-keeping

refers to the Early Years Foundation Stage and by close observation and continual assessment, we are able to help your child reach their full potential and prepare them for their future education.

Our nursery is an independent provider - Kaye has previously worked as a Registered Childminder, and has over 25 years experience. Parents like the comfort and care of a home based environment, which larger nurseries cannot always provide - however, we hope that we have got the balance right. By maintaining small numbers of children, we endeavour to always have that 'personal touch' and the highest of standards. Hand-picking staff will ensure the best quality care and education for your child.

All our staff are either qualified, or undertaking a recognised childcare qualification. Some are qualified teachers and others have undertaken an ongoing programme of professional development through the Early Years Development Childcare Partnership (EYDCP). All our staff have enhanced Disclosure and Barring checks in place and hold relevant first aid qualifications and child protection certificates. Our nursery has a 'key person' system. This means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom she/he is particularly responsible. Your child's key person will be the person who works with you to make sure that what we provide is right for your child's particular needs and interests.

Forest School

As our newest and most popular addition to the curriculum. Fostering a love of learning in the outdoor environment

A word from OFSTED

“Staff provide an inspiring learning environment in which children enjoy a range of learning experiences and are able follow their own interests, indoors and outside.” (Ofsted 2014)

Our Curriculum

Here are a couple of links to our outside education providers.

Teaching and learning for early childhood education and care begins the moment the child walks through the door. Having daily routines, providing self-help learning and life-skill development, structured and non-structured activities are all part of a child’s day.

Our outstanding staff understand this, and are able to provide an environment and offer activities where learning happens all day. We provide high quality, purposefully planned play opportunities that enable children to develop and flourish. We place equal importance on both the indoor and outdoor environments and ensure that each area stimulates the children’s imaginations.  Our spacious learning environment enables children to be active learners, become independent and develop creative and critical thinking skills. We introduce the skills to prepare them for reading, writing, maths, science and many other areas of school life.

The Nursery also invites external teachers into the setting, so that children can take part each week with specialist Yoga and Music teachers. We follow the areas of Learning and Development identified in in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and invite you to click the link below to access a "Parents Guide"

Our Mission

Quality Child Care - OFSTED Report

We believe that children thrive in an environment which values their own uniqueness, while providing support and opportunities to grow emotionally, socially and creatively. By building on each child’s strengths, interests and curiosities, we guide each child to explore the world around them as well as develop new abilities and form close relationships.
